Definition Procedure Text

Procedure text is text that contains steps to do something. The form can vary, such as food or drink recipes, how to make an object, how to use or operate something and much more.

Features of English Procedure Text

1. Writing procedure text must use simple present tense.

Examples are as follows:

- You have .to. boil the water first.

- While the noodle .is. cooked, put the seasoning.

- The noodle .is. ready.

2. The second characteristic is to use imperative sentences.

- Turn on the lights!

- Put the rice into the rice cooker!

- Don't forget to press the 'on' button!

3. The procedure text must also use sequence words.

Example:

- First, boil the water.

- Second, beat cream cheese.

- Next, prepare the dough.

4. The last feature, usually procedure text uses action verbs or action verbs in it. For example, go, look, eat, and so on.

Generic structure of a procedural text consists of:

Aim/Goal

which means purpose. Usually, this purpose lies in the title indicating the purpose of the text.

Example: How to Make Dalgona Coffee

Ingredients/Materials

explain what materials or tools are used to make something in the procedure text.

Example: The ingredients to make Dalgona coffee are coffee and sugar. We also need a spoon and warm water.

Steps/Methods

This section contains the steps taken to achieve the goals of the procedure text.

Example: First, wash the tomatoes

Language Features Procedure text

Here are some linguistic features of procedure text:

1. This text discusses facts about making or using something, so we need to use the simple present tense

2. Using imperative sentences. Command sentences must begin with a verb (verb).

Examples are mix, stir, boil, add

3. Using connectives.

Examples are in 5 minutes, for an hour, and so on. Adverb of manner.

For example: slowly, fastly, rapidly, powerfully, etc.
